RARE-NL at iDR25: Drug Repurposing as a team sport

During iDR25 – the international drug repurposing conference organized by REMEDi4ALL – RARE-NL is prominently represented. In various sessions, we share our insights and experiences on the reuse of existing medicines for new indications (drug repurposing).

On Thursday, May 8, Vincent van der Wel will participate in a session focusing on the translation from preclinical research to patient access in drug repurposing – and on the importance of collaboration between different stakeholders. Together with researcher Marjo van der Knaap, he will discuss a concrete case: the joint development of Guanabenz for VWM (Vanishing White Matter).

In this project, researchers, patient organizations, entrepreneurs, and RARE-NL join forces to make this treatment available to patients under socially responsible conditions. A great example of how collaboration between science, entrepreneurship, and patients is key to successful drug repurposing.
