Drug repurposing is a prominent area of activity within Amsterdam UMC, with researchers across a wide range of disciplines exploring new uses for existing medicines. However, it is often unclear which pathway is best suited to ensure that promising repurposing initiatives ultimately reach patients in a sustainable manner.

During this afternoon, we will address key questions concerning regulatory approval, reimbursement, valorisation and societal responsibility. RARE-NL will also bring together researchers, clinicians, regulators, policymakers and support professionals working in this field to exchange experiences and share knowledge.

• An introduction to the key concepts and requirements for drug repurposing
• Practical examples from Amsterdam UMC researchers
• An exploration of different pathways to patients, including registration through established market parties, the creation of new companies and off-label use
